WENDEMANÖVER

About the role of art in transformation.

From 25.03.21 - 31.05.21 the exhibition WENDEMANÖVER can be seen in Hamburg in the Wälderhaus. Due to the Corona pandemic, the exhibition can be viewed via a virtual tour.

National and international artists deal with the crises of our time. In addressing these crises, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the agenda of the United Nations, play an important role.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE EXHIBITION

My contribution to the exhibition deals first with the specificity of the site. The Wälderhaus was built for the International Building Exhibition (IBA) and was constructed largely of wood. Care was taken to use certified wood from sustainably managed growth areas.

Due to its positive approach to wood as a raw material and as an event location, the Wälderhaus offered an optimal basis for making these approaches visible in an art object.

IN PARTICULAR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CAN DO A GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO DEAL WITH THE CLIMATE CRISIS.

To avoid long delivery routes, wood was used that comes from the region as much as possible. Analogous to the facade of the Wälderhaus, larch wood was used for the object. Form and materiality are thus adapted directly from the context.

This creates a transformation of art with the thematic focus for which the building was constructed.

It is thus underlined the luminosity that the building radiates and how through a conscious use of resources a building like this can be built.

The main focus of the work is thus on the issue of sustainable use of resources, thus bringing to the fore the issues of the fight against environmental degradation and overcoming the climate crisis.

EVENT ORGANIZATION

The exhibition was initiated by RENN Nord (Regional Network Centers for Sustainability Strategies). Besides the already mentioned Wälderhaus, the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald Landesverband Hamburg e.V. (SDW) and Viva con Agua ARTS were also significantly involved in the organization.
