HAUS KARL SCHNEIDER

The Haus Karl Schneider series was created during my time in the building of the same name, one of Hamburg's rare Bauhaus buildings. The building, marked by varied uses and history, became an archive of materials, colors, and atmospheres for me.

 

In the three works in the series, these impressions are condensed into abstract compositions. Architectural elements such as the characteristic spiral staircase or the clearly structured garden façade are translated into geometric forms. The color scheme is based on exposed layers of paint from the restoration, traces of past conditions that have been reinterpreted.

 

This series can be understood as artistic archaeology: an examination of building culture, change, and the question of what stories materials carry within them and how they can live on in new forms.
